What? No box spring?

Platform beds are designed for a mattress only and do not require the use of a 'box spring'. Platform beds may provide either a solid surface for the mattress to rest on, or more often a 'slat roll' of closely spaced solid boards. This slat roll may be beneficial for people who tend to sleep warmer because it allows for better ventilation beneath the mattress which helps mitigate humidity build-up.

Our platform beds are available in many different designs, from craftsman to contemporary. Some provide a 'higher-off-the-floor' aesthetic, while others a 'lower-to-the-floor' profile. Unlike many mattresses today that are often too thick and unsuitable for a platform bed, European Sleep Design's mattresses have a lower profile and are ideal for platform bed use.

Most of our platform beds can be ordered with or without a foot board; in some cases even without a headboard if desired. Many styles are available in 'mattress/box spring' style too (see Bed Frames).

• Most of the platform beds we offer can accommodate our low-profile slat suspension foundation too if desired. This way you can have all the additional functionality that the flexible slat suspension provides, while maintaining the clean aesthetic look of a platform bed.

Various wood species (e.g. cherry, walnut & maple) and stained finish options are available. Limited minor customization is possible too depending on model. Please inquire.
